Safety Labour Hire
Highlight Sustainability was engaged by an industrial maintenance firm to support the crew during one of their client's shutdowns. During the shutdown, the personnel was required to inspect sites, attend pre-starts, support worker wellbeing, and work with the staff to report safety concerns to the client and senior management. Overall, physical and psychological safety awareness and inclusivity were improved by the end of the shutdown.
Sustainaibility Strategy
Highlight Sustainability was engaged in two instances to identify the key priorities for a construction and steel fabrication firm and a smaller consultancy to perform a double materiality assessment, gap assessment and workshops to identify the key priorities for sustainability strategy. Based on the resources available, we gathered key motivated personnel to join working groups who would help innovate and drive priority actions in decarbonisation and reconciliation.
Safety & Environment Management System
Highlight Sustainability was engaged to review safety and environment management systems due to a merger of a waste management company, and provide a consolidated new system. Site visits were performed, to identify any additional health, safety and environmental risks associated with the work.
GHG Management Plan
Highlight Sustainability was engaged to provide an expert review of a Greenhouse Gas Management Plan to be submitted per an EPA licence requirement for a gold mining company. The expert review was part of the most recent release of the Environmental Factor Guideline requirement for greenhouse gas emissions management, released in 2023.
Training and VOC Register
Highlight Sustainability was engaged to prepare a partially automated Microsoft Excel register for managing training and Verification of Competency certificates of employees at a gas extraction company. The data was to reduce the time required to manually update the register, but still be within the team's capabilities and budget to manage the spreadsheet. Using formulas, the Excel spreadsheet changed colour when the personnel’s training was nearing expiry, and when expired. A shortlist was generated on the front page of these personnel needing recertification.
TCFD Report
Highlight Sustainability was engaged to prepare a construction and steel fabrication company's first climate-related financial risk disclosures for its annual report. Highlight Sustainability engaged with key personnel within the corporate head office on their current understanding of climate risks to the business and whether there were any relevant prior relevant risk analysis and management plans in place.
Highlight Sustainability, then perform a workshop to educate and allow the key personnel to prioritize their first pass on climate risks and adaptation/mitigation measures. A detailed disclosure was then created from the information collected.
Chemical Risk Assessments
Highlight Sustainability was engaged to perform a risk assessment of the risk of exposure to chemical hazards in a small manufacturing workplace. After identifying all the substances used at the facility, all the SDS were reviewed to make individual risk assessments and an overall risk register. Recommendations were provided on the handling of particular substances.
Climate Risk Assessment
Highlight Sustainability was engaged in preparing workshop materials to support a second-pass climate risk assessment for a lithium mining company based in Western Australia. Highlight Sustainability built upon their first pass and added a more detailed assessment, including exposure to financial risks to each of the environmental and social impacts.
ICAM Investigation
Highlight Sustainability was engaged to perform an ICAM investigation for a road construction company. Research was conducted to identify a potential root cause and contributing factors. We then steered the meeting with the attendees to decide on reasonable actions. Organisational-level suggestions were made with a focus on eliminating the root cause. Recommendations included maintaining worker fitness for current and onboarding new staff. Relevant change management was performed to ensure the changes were implemented and well received.
NGER Expert Review
Highlight Sustainability was engaged in preparing a National Greenhouse and Energy report review of calculations and thresholds for a transport and logistics company. Highlight Sustainability, then make a series of recommendations for the next steps for the logistics company, according to NGER legislation.
GRI Sustainability Report
Highlight Sustainability was engaged to prepare an annual sustainability report and update a construction and steel fabrication company's materiality assessment according to GRI standards. Highlight Sustainability performed pre-workshop meetings with key personnel throughout the company on their understanding of sustainability risks. Then, I performed a double materiality workshop to prioritize the sustainability risks to the business and external stakeholders.
